Featured Fashion Designer of The Week – SixChel

Fashion Design by SixChel

Each week, HOFB selects a designer whose work inspires us creatively. Whether for the beauty, humor, detail, or the story behind the designs HOFB features designers we love that we think you’ll enjoy too.

This week we’re featuring the incredible work of Fashion Brand SixChel. Based in Austin, TX SixChel is a fashion brand for the modern woman. Producing designs and products with an emphasis on supporting the sustainability of our planet, each piece is created with preservation and feminine style in mind, delivering a look that’s unique, proud, chic and can be worn with everyday ease.

Fashion Design by SixChel

SixChel is committed to focusing on ‘slow fashion’ principles as well as using the finest sustainable fabrics to produce clothes with a purpose.

More people are increasingly aware of how clothing is made, by whom and how often harsh working environments can actually be. SixChel is a part of this new movement taking place.

Choosing to buy slow fashion makes the right statement to manufacturers about how we as consumers would rather contribute to this world and support the rights of local artisans and workers around the globe.

We continue to buy and wear more clothing, even pieces that we may never wear, all for the sake of being trendy. However slow fashion requires that these pieces are made under better and fairer circumstances with a higher quality that will last longer.

Hence the word “slow” fashion, noting that these products are usually handmade, not mass produced by machines or exploited children and women. Because of this, artisans and other workers are often paid much more and their work provides a sustainable economy and better environment for them and their families.

SixChel is dedicated to finding the best options to provide their customers with the best sustainable clothes.

Fashion Design by SixChel

Dina Chavez is the founder and designer of SixChel. She studied Costume Design at The University of Texas-Austin and Fashion Design at The Academy of Art University. Ms. Chavez’s looks have been shown at New York Fashion Week, Fashion X Austin, Fashion X Houston, Fashion X Dallas, The Pin Show (Dallas, TX), The Gotham City Films Studio (Los Angeles, CA) and have been created for Austin-based rockstar, Kimberly Freeman for the Grammy Awards.

“I’m not sure what inspired me to get into fashion. It was something I always had an interest in and wanted to be a part of. I learned how to sew at a very young age and fell in life with creating looks for myself since it was difficult for me to find unique styles at department stores. Today, I’m mostly inspired by the idea to tell a story through fashion. Fashion is more than clothes; it’s an avenue to express yourself and what better way to encourage woman empowerment and the importance of sustainability than through fashion.”

Fashion Design by SixChel

Our Values

“Certain components became more important as I learned about fashion and worked in the industry. I quickly became aware of the negative connotation the fashion industry had created about women and knew I wanted my brand to be a positive force women could feel proud to wear and support. SixChel encourages woman empowerment and believes that by supporting the diversity amongst women, we will create a positive and acceptable environment for all women who seek comfort in sustainable and stylish clothes.” – Dina Chavez

Why Sustainable

“After years spent building my fashion label from the ground up, a family tragedy led me to reevaluate life – and business – as I’d always known it. I closed that company and spent one year creating an entirely new brand focused on apparel that’s made ethically and as sustainably as possible. The fashion industry is one of the largest contributing factors to our Earth’s pollution Working in the fashion industry for some years, and experiencing all the components of building a fashion line, I realized that I could not add to the pollution and toxins the fast-fashion industry had created.”  – Dina Chavez

Powerful Words from Inspiring Designers

Quote from Designer Ralph Lauren

Fashion designers throughout history have created designs and movements that have stood the test of time.  However, it’s not just their designs that provide inspiration.

Their insight into the creative process and their perspective on “seeing” the world, have guided and inspired countless of emerging designers throughout the years and still do to this day.

Here are some famous quotes from those inspirational fashion designers.

1. “What you wear is how you present yourself to the world, especially today when human contacts are so quick. Fashion is instant language.” —Miuccia Prada

2. Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”
—Bill Cunningham

3. “I don’t design clothes. I design dreams.” —Ralph Lauren

4. “Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.”
—Gianni Versace

5. “Fashion is very important. It is life-enhancing and, like everything that gives pleasure, it is worth doing well.” —Vivienne Westwood

6. “I think there is beauty in everything. What ‘normal’ people perceive as ugly, I can usually see something of beauty in it.”—Alexander McQueen

7. “In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different.” —Coco Chanel

8. “Clothes are like a good meal, a good movie, great pieces of music.”
—Michael Kors

A Re-imagined Fashion Marketplace

Fashion Runway

What is HOFB? HOFB stands for House of Fashion Brands.

We’ve built an enterprise marketplace for independent and emerging fashion designers, brands and retailers to sell and source more fashion products easily and globally. We’re hoping to end the struggles faced by designers who have to cold-call, send line sheets and style guides to countless buyers and retailers just hoping for a favorable response.

We experienced the challenges of bringing new fashion designs and accessories to markets across the globe. Our founders worked at consumer product companies both domestically and internationally and saw firsthand how difficult it could be to start small and work hard towards a big vision.

Our greatest hope is that HOFB helps designers make connections, find new projects, and create new fans, so they can spend more time doing what they love…creating.

After years of work, we developed a solution that streamlines the process of commercializing fashion designs and bringing them to life on a mass scale for retailers and consumers. This gives designers the freedom to focus on their passion, connect with other designers, and profit from their work.

HOFB will bridge the gap between retailers and independent designers when it comes to commercialization. New design styles and product are constantly available for retailers to source from.

This showcase of diversity and array of ideas has never been accessible or as streamlined. Our platform increases sales and revenue for retailer partners and provides a look into the future of fashion trends before they hit the runway or street.

Join here at www.hofb.com and be notified when we launch. Fashion retailers, merchandisers, boutiques, stores, and shops looking to partner with HOFB to source independent fashion products should email us at info@hofb.com.
